With the truss-rod modified and checked for a nice tight fit, it’s time to make up a thin plywood shim to fit over the top and glue the rod into the neck. This is done with epoxy and it’s then left to set for 24 hours. After this I can carefully level the plywood shim down to the top of the neck. I’m taking care not to damage the finished edge of the headstock veneer, which was applied in a separate step (see next page....).
Now that the truss-rod is done I can remove some of the material from the neck but at this stage I’ll leave a couple of ‘wings’ so that it can be easily clamped.
